Harry Potter – inspired, Pennyhill Park Wedding.
Dan (Ben) and Sam got married last month at the beautiful and fancy Pennyhill Park, in Bagshot, Surrey. 2 days before the government banned all fun!
They really wanted to incorporate their love of Harry Potter into their wedding. If you’ve seen, or been to a Pennyhill Park wedding, then you’ll know it feels very Hogwarts esq, so it was a great place to start. Sam, then had an amazing idea to DIY most of the bits they needed, a plan, that she regretted (her own words) quite early on. I think she did a stellar job! Handmade paper roses and confetti cones, from pages of the books. Love potions, individually tagged for favours and the most impressive, was all the Hogwarts letters, that she individually personalised & addressed! Superstar right there! What they didn’t plan for, was a global pandemic screwing with their plans!
I’m not gonna lie, we were nervous about shooting this one. We’re seasoned pro’s so it wasn’t the actual wedding that unnerved us, it was the virus! Armed with antibacterial gel, wipes & our trusty gloves, we put our big girl pants on & went and did what we love to do. I’m so glad we did too, what a bloody good day it was.
The excitement before the wedding
Both Sam & Dan got ready at Pennyhill Park. The boys were due to do some shooting in the morning, but Corona, shut that right down, so they twiddled their thumbs for most of the morning, until they could get to the bar.
The girls excitement levels were high and who can blame them. No one could quite believe it was happening, and despite a few hiccups, that always happen at a wedding anyway the smiles were firmly on their faces. We knew as soon as we arrived, that regardless of anything, they would all have the best day and we were happy to be along for the ride.
The ceremony was an intimate affair of their very nearest & dearest, in the Library. I love this room! It oozes character, with it’s wood panelling, stained glass windows and cozy fireplaces. It’s very Hogwarts! During the ceremony something new to us happened! In 12 years of shooting weddings, we have never had this come up! The registrar accidentally called Dan Ben. Twice!! Whoops. Oh my god, it was so funny. Dan was shocked. Sam, along with everyone else, erupted in laughter and the poor registrar was mortified!
After the ceremony
As they walked back down the aisle together, the guests showered them with tons of confetti. I love it when theres loads of confetti, people don’t realise how hard & fast it comes at you. It makes for hilarious photo’s and today was no exception! Sorry (not sorry) It didn’t take long for the Ben heckles to start either LOL!
During their drinks reception, Simon Alexander, was on hand on entertain the guests and he certainly did that! It’s no surprise, that I am fascinated by people watching and watching them watch a magician work is hilarious. No matter how many time, you yourself have seen a trick, it’s always great watching someone else see it for the first time, you’ll see how amazed they were below.
The fun carried on wayyyyyyy into the evening and we stayed to capture it all. Their speeches were funny & full of stories. The first dance was a good old fashioned wedding shuffle, quickly encouraging all their guest to join in, followed by a sweet and emotional Father daughter dance. The dance floor was never empty after that, and the dancing got better as the night (alcohol consumption) went on!
Sam and Dan’s wedding was just the happiest occasion and everything we love about weddings.
